Four Kentuckiana Works Satellite Centers Will Close Friday

Kentuckiana Works is closing four satellite career locations in the Louisville area in response to a $475,000 cut in next year’s federal budget.Kitty Armstrong is the communications director for Kentuckiana Works. She says the other locations will continue to offer various job services.“You can get assistance with unemployment insurance, if you need to do a job search, we can help you with a career assessment, if you’re thinking about going back and pursuing another career,” she said.The cut will close half of Kentuckiana Works’ locations, though all three of its comprehensive centers will remain open. Armstrong says the centers are already busy—but they’ll continue to try to serve everyone who needs career advice.“Our career specialists are busy from when the doors open to when they close at the end of the day, so the demand is great, especially in these tough economic times,” she said. “But we’re doing our best to serve as many people that need help.”The centers that will close are located in Jeffersontown, in the Riverport Industrial Park, at the Jewish Family and Career Services and on the Shelby County campus of Jefferson Community and Technical College.Kentuckiana Works will continue to operate three comprehensive centers and one satellite center to serve the seven-county region. Three of those are in Louisville and one is in Bullitt County.
