Mayor Greg Fischer and Congressman John Yarmuth plan to be on hand tomorrow to celebrate new renovations to Valley High School. Construction is underway on a new 3200-seat gymnasium, a new 600-seat auditorium and renovated classroom space.Opened in 1936, the southwest Louisville high school has an active alumni association and the event is designed to connect the school’s past with its future. The construction is the first significant expansion of the school’s facilities since 1973.The school district plans to eventually host events at Valley, including the Louisville Invitational Tournament, which has been held at other sites that charged the district rent.The project is expected to be completed during the 2012-2013 school year. A portion of the construction is paid for with federal stimulus dollars.
