Today is the deadline for candidates to apply to be the next superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools. The school board will begin reviewing applications on Saturday morning.  It will choose a group of semifinalists and interview those candidates on the following Wednesday and Friday. After eliminating more of the candidates, the board will announce the finalists' names the following week, on June 1. The remaining candidates will meet with various stakeholder groups involved with JCPS in the following week.Current superintendent Sheldon Berman's contract expires at the end of June. The board has interviewed candidates for an interim superintendent in case the new leader isn't chosen or can't take office by July 1.Stakeholders and board chair Steve Imhoff have previously said the new superintendent must support diversity through student assignment and be able to work with the board. He adds, however, that the latter qualification will require some action on the board's part, too
