Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels has signed a bill that makes his state the first to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood. The measure also further restricts abortions in the state, and Planned Parenthood of Indiana has promised to challenge the law in court, first by seeking a temporary restraining order and injunction against it.That makes the group a rarity among pro-choice organizations, since many have refrained from challenging similar laws elsewhere out of concern that a loss in court would overturn legal precedent.Daniels's support of the legislation boosts his credentials among social conservatives as he considers whether to run for president. Daniels is primarily known for his fiscal conservatism.Daniels signed 79 other bills today.Additional information from the Associated Press.
