Crushing his two opponents, state Senate President David Williams has over a 30-point lead in the Republican primary race for governor.According to a poll conducted by SurveyUSA, Williams is favored by 49 percent of likely GOP voters over Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw and Louisville businessman Phil Moffett, a Tea Party back candidate. The primary is May 17.Political observers appear to believe the campaign was over before it began. From the Courier-Journal:Ted Jackson, a Republican political consultant, said he's not surprised to find Williams leading in the Republican primary because he and Farmer are the best-funded GOP ticket — and the best known in that race.
“There is no campaign as far as this primary is concerned — it would be a stretch to call it a skirmish,” Jackson said.
The polls shows 25 percent of voters are still undecided.
