The Louisville Free Public Library Foundation is making it easier for people to pursue an General Equivalency Diploma. Now through June 30, the foundation is offering free GED testing and retesting. GED classes are free, but the tests usually cost $55, which officials say poses a barrier to many people.Library Director Craig Buthod says this is part of the library’s educational mission…and his personal mission. "I nearly dropped out of high school. I never said this publicly in Louisville, but I nearly dropped out of high school and I finished my high school career in a dropout prevention last chance special school. There, someone helped me see the value in finishing my high school diploma and helped me get into college. If not for that, I wouldn't be here today, I wouldn't have had a long and successful career in education" he said. More information about GED testing and practice test locations can be found here.
