Indiana House Democrats Stay Away Another Day

Indiana House Democrats say they won’t end their legislative boycott unless Republicans come to a negotiating table and make concessions on bills they oppose, but GOP leaders say any compromise must take place on the House floor. It has been two weeks now since the Democrats fled to Illinois to protest the majority Republicans’ agenda, shutting down most House business. In floor remarks Monday, Republican Representative Jud McMillin said time is slipping away."The people of the state of Indiana cannot wait for the immovable force to meet the unstoppable object. We have a job to do here and that is to negotiate and to determine the issues that are important to the voters that put us here," he said. Democrats say they won’t return to the Statehouse unless Republicans agree to make changes to bills dealing with collective bargaining and school vouchers.
