Kentuckians for the Commonwealth Monday will hold its annual “I Love Mountains Day” march and rally in Frankfort. The march is meant to protest the method of coal mining commonly called mountaintop removal. The process can leave waterways clogged and polluted, and the group will push for passage of the so-called stream saver bill. The legislation would block mining companies from dropping the waste from mountaintop removal in streams. It has never gained traction in the General Assembly. The march begins at 11 am. Last Friday, a group of mountaintop removal demonstrators staged a sit-in at Governor Steve Beshear's office. Many of them remain in the office and will join the march.
