Fischer Schedules City Budget Hearings

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer has scheduled a series of hearings for citizen input on the next city budget.They’ll be chaired by Chief Financial Officer Steve Roland, who says the first of the five meetings will be held February 22nd."We won’t be debating anyone, we’re just here to listen to what they have to tell us. And then we’ll bring that back in and talk to our department heads and talk with the mayor and the metro council members and talk about the validity and how we can address the concerns that are raised at these meetings," Roland said. Fischer says he plans to have his budget proposal ready to present to the Metro Council by late May. The council will hold budget hearings in June.The mayor says the city will have to fill a projected budget gap of $15 million to $18 million. The citizen budget hearings are:Feb. 22, 7:30 p.m.Southwest Government Center, 7219 Dixie Highway Feb. 28, 1 p.m.Shawnee Golf Course community room, 460 Northwestern Parkway March 1, 1 p.m.Metro Hall, Mayor’s Gallery, 527 W. Jefferson St. March 8, 7 p.m.East Government Center, 200 Juneau Dr. in Middletown March 12, 1 p.m.Central Government Center, 7201 Outer LoopFischer also announced a new series of opportunities for citizens to share ideas and concerns directly with him at “Talk to Greg” meetings held every other month on the second Monday of the month at locations throughout the city.
