One Year After Quake, Haiti's Struggles Continue

By Sheila AshOne year after a devastating earthquake killed nearly a quarter of a million people in Haiti, some say the conditions in the country have improved little.Dee Dee Hurt with Edge Outreach in Louisville says she was in Haiti recently. "I went back in November with my church and the tent cities are still everywhere people are still afraid to move back into their homes," she said. Hurt says in addition to the earthquake, Haitains have dealt with diseases over the last year because they still don’t have enough clean drinking water.Edge Outreach provides clean drinking water to several countries, including Haiti.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
