Passport Executives Fired

Passport Health Plan has fired two of its top executives, a move demanded by Governor Steve Beshear if the Louisville-based Medicaid services provider is to keep its nearly $800 million contract.Passport announced today that it is terminating its contracts with Executive Vice-President Shannon Turner and Associate Vice-President Nici Gaines. They were sharply criticized in a state audit report released last month that found extravangant spending and conflicts of interest within Passport. It also questioned the handling of cash reserves by some of Passport's major partners.Last week, Beshear handed company officials an 11-point corrective action plan that must be followed to avoid a termination of Passport's state contract. Passport provides Medicaid services to patients in Jefferson and 15 surrounding counties.
