Passport Board To Meet With HFS Secretary

The Passport Health Plan board of directors will meet with a state government official this week in Louisville to discuss changes planned for the company.Last week, Governor Steve Beshear presented officials from the Louisville-based Medicaid services company with a 11-point "Corrective Action Plan" that they must follow in order to keep Passport's nearly $800 million state contract. It comes after a state audit last month that uncovered extravagent spending by Passport executives and questioned the handling of millions of dollars by its top stake-holders.Beshear said he came away from his meeting with Passport leaders confident that the changes he called for will be made. "They all realized that there are problems here that need to be addressed immediatedly, they want the passport plan to continue, and they are willing to take whatever steps are necessary to make sure that happens," he said. Beshear has called for Passport's leadership team to be replaced. Last week the company hired a new Chief Executive Officer. The board will meet with Health and Family Services Secretary Janie Miller Tuesday morning.
