Louisville's director of Public Health has accepted a new job in Florida and will leave in November.Mayor Jerry Abramson appointed Dr. Adewale Troutman in 2003. The next mayor of Louisville could have appointed a new health director, though the issue has not been discussed in the campaign. Health department spokesperson says Kathy Harrison says Dr. Adewale Troutman's departure is not politically motivated, he was simply offered an attractive job at the University of South Florida."He has been thinking, more and more, with the birth of a new grandchild, about what retirement might look like and what he might like to do to help him transition to retirement," she says. "He's still got very much a love and a passion for public health, but another love and passion he has is scuba diving."Dr. Troutman will be the director of USF's Public Health Practice and Public Health Leadership Institute."He's also going to serve as a consultant to the Department of Community Health in Tampa and will be a full professor at the University of South Florida and he expects to start his new post in early November," says Harrison.Abramson has appointed medical director Dr. Matt Zahn interim health director. The next mayor will appoint a permanent director.
