The Family Foundation of Kentucky wants to intervene in a court case testing the legality of Instant Racing. The state’s horse racing commission last month approved Instant Racing, or electronic wagering on previously run races. But Martin Cothran of the Family Foundation says Instant Racing is just another form of casino gambling.“What the people who support this are saying is that’s the same as pari-mutuel gaming, which is what we do with horses. It’s a long tradition in this state. But it’s not pari-mutuel wagering. The state attorney general has said so in an opinion he came out with earlier this year.”A hearing on the intervention request will be held next week. Late next month, the racing commission will hold a public hearing on new regulations to allow Instant Racing in the commonwealth.
