This month marks the 65th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombings in Japan that led to the end of World War Two. Louisville’s Hiroshima/Nagasaki Commemoration Committee and other local groups are marking the anniversaries with two events.Committee chair Terry Taylor says a lantern floating ceremony will be held Friday, the anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing, starting at 8pm, at Willow Lake at the corner of Lexington and Grinstead.“It will include readings, poetry, music a real family friendly event, and we will light candles and float them on the lake there as a way of commemorating those who died in Hiroshima and other wars,” he said.Another ceremony on Monday, August 9, the Nagasaki anniversary, will include the tolling of bells at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Louisville.(Story by WFPL intern Andy Freudenberg)
