A shift in staff is underway at the Kentucky Department of Education. To cope with three and four percent budget cuts in the current and next fiscal year, the department is combining offices and eliminating two jobs.Spokesperson Lisa Gross says the reorganization will save about half a million dollars, with more savings to be realized in the future."When we have a position that opens up, let's say someone retires or someone takes another position somewhere else, we're going to review those positions very carefully, and it may be that we don't fill those positions or we repurpose those positions," she says. The two employees who were laid off were in what Gross calls high-level administrative positions.
