State Parks May Turn Golf Courses Over To Private Vendors

The Kentucky Department of Parks has issued a proposal seeking information from vendors that might want to operate state owned golf courses.Spokesperson Gil Lawson says there are 18 state courses that could be operated by private sector firms.“Right now rounds of golf are subsidized by taxpayers, we are losing money at this and we can no longer afford to do that. As a result of the budget this year we have to save 6 million dollars this year. Part of that saving we intend to come from concession operations and some of our restaurants,” he said.  A “request for information” from interested vendors has been issued, with a deadline of August 18 for responses.  (Story by Andy Freudenberg)
