The pronunciation of our city's name is a sure-fire way to tell a native from a noob. But there's a reason it isn't Lewis-ville: because the S isn't pronounced in King Louis XVI. The earliest Louisvillians came from everywhere, it seems - many of them from France. This Bastille Day we'll tip our chapeaus and raise a glass of Bordeaux to Louisville's French history.
