Harrods Creek Bridge Renovation On Track, More Expensive

by Gabe BullardRenovations to the Harrods Creek Bridge in eastern Jefferson County are on track to be completed by August, but with a higher price tag.The one-lane span was determined unsafe by a state inspector and closed in 2008. Metro Government planned to rebuild and widen the historic bridge at a cost of two million dollars, but faced litigation from the conservation group River Fields. The lawsuits have since been dropped, but mayor's spokesperson Lindsay English says the city wants to preserve much the bridge's original appearance, and that will cost an additional one million dollars."It could have been a little cheaper to build it, but to maintain the historic look, maintaining the arches and recreating similar guardrails, it cost a little bit more," she says.Work on the bridge continues this week. Cranes have been brought in to install a new deck.
