Yard Signs May Stay Up In Louisville, Depending On The Neighborhood

by Gabe BullardAnyone in Jefferson County with yard signs still in place from this week's primary election may not be obligated to remove them.The old city of Louisville once required signs to be removed after elections, but County Attorney's spokesperson Bill Patteson says the city law was thrown out about 20 years ago and the county law was repealed."The courts have decided that it's a First Amendment issue and so we are not allowed to put a time limitation on that issue," he says.Some neighborhoods and subdivisions may have rules mandating yard signs be removed after elections, but Patteson says those too could be challenged.He adds that many campaigns collect signs after the elections. They can also be turned over to Public Works for collection.
