by Stephanie CrosbyA University of Louisville law professor says today’s nomination of Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court is a safe choice for President Obama.Brandeis School of Law professor Russell Weaver says the Solicitor General is highly qualified for the position, but does little to improve a certain kind of diversity on the high court.“A lot of the people that have been appointed in recent years have come from a couple of different law schools," says Weaver, "and I would really like to see a broadening of that to reach out to people that may not be going to one or two elite law schools throughout the country.”Kagan is the former dean of Harvard Law School. Weaver says Harvard has seen a disproportionate number of nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court. He believes the confirmation hearings for Kagan will be less controversial than those for President Obama’s previous nominee, Sonia Sotomayor.
