by Stephanie CrosbyGeorge Rogers Clark Elementary School in Clarksville, Indiana may be closed at the end of this school year. The school district has a projected budget deficit of $980,000 and the closure is being proposed to help close the shortfall.Superintendent Kim Knott says there’s no way to make up that much money without letting teachers go.“We will clearly have a reduction in force that goes forward, whether it will be teachers at George Rogers Clark or teachers at the high school, that remains to be seen, but we will clearly have that reduction in force," says Knott. "The students will just be moved.”Knott says if George Rogers Clark is closed, its 250 students will be transferred to the district’s other elementary school.A special board of education meeting could be called this week or next to discuss the cuts.
