Ward-Pugh Unveils Green Triangle Plan

by Gabe BullardLouisville Metro Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh Wednesday unveiled her vision for a greener 9th district, which includes Crescent Hill, Clifton and Butchertown. For months, Ward-Pugh's office conducted surveys and community meetings, asking residents and businesses what they were doing to protect the environment and what they would like to see done. The result is the "Green Triangle" plan, which calls for various initiatives, from improved parks and green space to classes to teach residents small-scale farming. One of the immediate results of the plan will be improved recycling. Ward-Pugh says many businesses don't recycle because the bins are too small. In the next few weeks, she'll take orders from businesses on Frankfort Avenue for recycling bins that are the same size as trash cans."My hope is that once the Frankfort Avenue corridor is successful, we'll expand it to other corridors in the Ninth District," she says.Ward-Pugh says she hopes the plan will catch on and inspire other council members to initiate similar programs in their districts.
