Emergency Management Officials Continue Earthquake Prep Measures

Westernmost parts of Kentucky are included in the New Madrid Seismic Zone, which experienced catastrophic earthquakes in the early 1800’s.Earthquake Program Manager for the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management Steve Oglesby says they’re working hard to learn as much as they can about the fault line and potential damage in a quake.“We actually have the Corps of Engineers out of Louisville doing a research project for us as we do the planning for that catastrophic type earthquake in regard to where would we be able to put things if the roads are out and if a lot of the grounds structure is unusable?” says Oglesby.He says they’ll be visiting local emergency management offices this summer to talk about a new approach to emergency operations plans called the Active Planning Process.He spoke on today’s State of Affairs.
