First-Ever Riehm Award Given

Metro Government and education officials Thursday presented a new environmental award.The Joan Riehm Environmental Leadership Award is named for the former Louisville deputy mayor who died in 2008, and was an advocate of green initiatives. The inaugural prize was given to University of Louisville administrator Larry Owsley. Among other things, Owsley oversees construction at U of L and was recognized for his work developing abandoned industrial and commercial land near the Belknap campus."I believe it recognizes the University of Louisville's strategic commitment to responsible environmental stewardship in terms of what we teach and the research we conduct, how we partner with the metropolitan community in our outreach initiatives and how we conduct our business operations," he says.The award was created by the Partnership for a Green City, which is a collaboration of U of L, Metro Government and Jefferson County Public Schools.
