Candidates Campaign At Tea Party

by Gabe BullardHundreds of  demonstrators gathered in Jefferson Square Park Thursday for Louisville's second-annual tax day Tea Party. But this year's event took on a different tone from last year's.Many of the protesters at last year's tea party held signs calling for revolution or the impeachment of elected officials.    This year, many candidates for office were present to advocate a more peaceful method of shifting power…voting.Former Jefferson County GOP chairman Bard Cummings says the growth of the Tea Party movement and the upcoming election have made the rallies key opportunities for candidates to outline their conservative platforms.“If you’re trying to get a conservative base, then you certainly need to come to this group here and make your pitch, as well as you need to go to the Republican Party groups and other conservative groups around town," he says. Most GOP candidates for the U.S. House and Senate and the mayor's office spoke at the rally.
