Fischer Unveils Crime Prevention Plan

by Gabe BullardDemocratic candidate for mayor Greg Fischer Tuesday outlined his crime prevention plan for Louisville. The plan is essentially a list of general goals Fischer would like to accomplish if elected. He calls for a more diverse police force that can form better relationships with communities throughout the city, and a multi-departmental focus on youth and family services."Most kids are arrested between 3 and 7 PM, after school when they don't have a safe place to go and do something productive…so quality after school services…and making sure that domestic violence is banished in our community," he says.Fischer also says he will push for stiffer penalties for gun crimes. He says he would not seek to replace Police Chief Robert White if elected, though with White seeking jobs in other cities, Fischer says he would also be prepared to appoint a new chief if necessary.Fischer is one of eight Democrats running for mayor. Three Republicans and at least three independent candidates are also in the race.
