University of Louisville Joins Kentucky Proud

by Stephanie CrosbyThe University of Louisville’s Belknap campus bookstore is the newest retailer in the Kentucky Proud program. The program works with retailers to identify and promote products grown or produced in the commonwealth. It’s run by the Kentucky Agriculture Department.Commissioner Ritchie Farmer says U-of-L is an ideal partner in the effort.“We have the same goals: to raise awareness about local food, to raise farm income, and to create economic development," says Farmer. "This announcement is a big step toward achieving all those goals.”Kentucky Proud has 18-hundred participating vendors, and Farmer says the program generated $250-million in revenue over the last three years.
