by Gabe BullardOrganizers have released the details of this year's Forecastle Festival in Louisville. In his quest to make Forecastle one of the top festivals the region, founder J.K. McKnight has moved the event from the Belvedere to Waterfront Park. The four-stage festival begins on July 9th and features headliners the Flaming Lips, Widespread Panic and Spoon, with more bands to be announced.McKnight says he doesn't think Forecastle will compete for fans with Louisville's other music festival, Churchill Downs' HullabaLOU, which will be held two weeks later."I think it's a different audience. We knew about the lineup about two months or so beforehand," he says. "When I heard Bon Jovi was on I just kind of shrugged and went back to work. But you know it's hopefully good for the economy here and puts Louisville on the map in a way it never has been before."McKnight says with the two festivals, July could be the biggest month for music in Louisville. For a list of performers, visit the Forecastle website. The festival is sponsored in part by our sister station, WFPK.
