The first signs of spring mean road crews will be out in force this weekend.Two projects that were started last year will resume this weekend – and that road work will lead to several lane and ramp closures on I-65 and the Watterson Expressway in Louisville.Transportation Cabinet spokesperson Andrea Clifford says there will be detours available, but some weekend drivers may find the routes dramatically altered.“Motorists really need to pay attention to the signs, even though they may think ‘oh, this is something I’ve seen before’, a lot of times these ramps closures are different from the weekend prior, so they really need to slow down and pay attention to those sign as they’re driving through the work zones," says Cliffod.The construction projects include paving on the Watterson and guard rail installation on I-65.These ramp closures are scheduled from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2010 until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, March 22, 2010.
- Entrance ramp from Preston Highway to eastbound Interstate 264 (Exit 13)
- Entrance ramp from northbound Poplar Level Road to westbound Interstate 264 (Exit 14)
- Exit ramp from eastbound Interstate 264 to northbound Breckenridge Lane (Exit 18)
- Entrance ramp from southbound Breckenridge Lane to eastbound Interstate 264 (Exit 18)
In addition, there will be lane closures on the mainline of I-264 between Preston Highway and Interstate 64 (mile points 12.2 to 19.0) during this same time period.The following ramps will be closed from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 19th until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, March, 22nd:
- Exit ramp from southbound Interstate 65 to eastbound Interstate 264 will be closed. Motorists should follow the signed detour via the exit for Grade Lane, turn left at the bottom of the ramp, turn right on Preston Highway and then access northbound I-65 to eastbound I-264.
- Entrance ramp from Preston Highway to northbound Interstate 65 – the collector ramp will be closed. Motorists should follow the signed detour utilizing the northbound I-65 collector ramp to where it splits to eastbound I-264. Travel east on I-264 to the Newburg Road exit, turn left and then access the ramp to westbound I-264. Travel west on I-264 to northbound I-65.
- Exit ramp from eastbound Interstate 264 to northbound Interstate 65 will be closed. Motorists should follow the signed detour on eastbound I-264 to the Newburg Road exit, turn left and then access the ramp to westbound I-264. Travel west on I-264 to northbound I-65.
- Exit ramp from westbound Interstate 264 to Crittenden Drive will be closed. Motorists should follow the signed detour via the exit for the Fairgrounds, turn left onto Phillips Lane and follow to Crittenden Drive.
