Sexual Abuse in African-American Community
Sexual abuse can happen to any family, in any socioeconomic class, in any ethnic group. In any instance, it's difficult for the victim to come forward, and it can be difficult for the family, especially if the perpertrator is a family member or close friend. In the African American community societal issues such as fear of betraying family by turning offenders in to "the system," distrust of authority figures such as police and social workers, and a cultural norm of "taking care of it in the family" can also keep the abuse silent. Join us on Tuesday for a discussion of sexual abuse in the African American community.
