Thousands of Kentuckians leave money on the table each year because they qualify for the federal earned-income tax credit and don’t apply for it – that’s according to Governor Steve Beshear. He was in Louisville today to encourage low-income Kentuckians to look into their eligibility for the tax credit and take advantage of free tax preparation sites throughout the state. The earned-income tax credit is for families earning less then 49-thousand dollars a year, and Beshear says thousands of Kentuckians qualify.“It’s a bi-partisan supported credit that has become one of our country’s most significant anti-poverty tools," says Beshear. "Unfortunately, many people are unfamiliar with this program or assume incorrectly that they don’t qualify for it.”He says last year 376,000 Kentucky residents were awarded the tax credit, and they collectively received $754-million.
