Yarmuth Says Health Care Overhaul Must be Pared Back

Last week’s election of Massachusetts republican Scott Brown to the Senate has thrown the progress of health care legislation into question. Congressman John Yarmuth of Louisville says he’s disappointed with the shift in the Senate. The democrat says one option would be for the House to pass the Senate version of the bill – something he doesn’t think will happen. He says another option is to take some parts of both the House and the Senate bills they think can get bi-partisan support and get those approved.“While comprehensive reform probably would be the best approach," says Yarmuth, "we deal in the realm of the possible, and right now it looks like the only thing that’s possible is an incremental, step-by-step approach.”Yarmuth says he thinks the items that can pass with bi-partisan support are some of the insurance reform measures. He says it’s likely the only action Congress will take on health care for the rest of the year.
