Legislators Introduce Calorie Information Legislation

Legislation has been introduced in the Kentucky General Assembly that would require chain restaurants to post calorie information on menus. The bill mirrors national legislation and would apply only to restaurants with 20 or more locations nationwide. State Senator Denise Harper Angel of Louisville introduced the bill with Representative Kelly Flood of Lexington. Harper Angel has twice introduced similar bills, but she says this time, there's less pushback from restaurateurs."I think that they realize that this bill is coming and that it's necessary and I think they realize that it's going to, in my opinion, create additional business for them because people are going to go where they can see what kind of calories they're taking in," she says. The bill was filed in both chambers, and will have a committee reading in the House.
