Icy Weather Predicted for New Years Eve and Friday

Rainy and then weather conditions from now through Friday could make for dicey road conditions on New Year’s Eve. WFPL’s Elizabeth Kramer has more.The National Weather Service is forecasting showers starting late Wednesday night followed by a cold front that will likely create slick roads throughout Kentucky on Thursday and Friday.Angela Lese is a lead meteorologist with the weather service."For New Year’s Eve, a cold front is going to pass and then temperatures are going to fall," she says, "so there could be a quick change over to a rain-snow mix and then just snow, but it’s going to be very light precipitation."Lese says that temperatures in the 20s into Friday will mean the ice will probably stick around for a while."If we can get any kind of sunlight on Friday, that might help melt stuff even despite the temperatures being cold," she says. "But I wouldn’t expect ice on bridges and overpasses to melt away; that’s probably going to stick around for Friday and Friday night."Cold temperatures are expected to last through the weekend and into the first week of 2010.
