H1N1 Declines in Kentucky

From Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeighThe number of cases of H1N1, or swine flu, in Kentucky continues to decline.In the last three weeks, Kentucky has seen no new deaths attributed to H1N1, or swine flu. The death toll remains at 36, including three children.State Health Commissioner Dr. William Hacker says Kentucky’s classification on the spread of swine flu has also been downgraded.“We have gone from widespread to now regional spread in terms of flu activity," says Hacker. "There are four different categories and this is the second highest level - the category is regional spread. Which means we are still seeing a lot of flu, it’s just that it’s not quite at the peak it was in late October and early November.”Dr. Hacker says the state still isn’t seeing much in the way of seasonal flu, but that could change in coming months. Right now, swine flu is predominant.There is considerably more vaccine now available, and health officials say it’s still not too late to get a swine flu shot.
