The Louisville Metro Council has approved the appointment of Rosemary Mattingly to the Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Protection District Board of Trustees. Her nomination by Mayor Jerry Abramson drew objections from some area residents and council members, who complained that the mayor ignored the results of a district election that recommended Michael Priddy for the seat. Abramson said he was forced to select his own nominee because the election process violated state statute. Mattingly's term expires in 2013.In other business Thursday, the council postponed action on a resolution regarding mayoral succession until some wording in the legislation can be clarified. The resolution asks state lawmakers to change merger law to, among other things, allow the council president to briefly take over government operations if the elected mayor cannot fulfill his or her duties. The council will revisit the matter on January 28.
