Kragthorpe Fired; Search Underway For Successor

A national search is underway for a new football coach at the University of Louisville. The school is looking to replace Steve Kragthorpe , who was fired Saturday morning.Kragthorpe compiled a 15-21 record during his three seasons in Louisville. The Cards finished 4-8 this year, with a Big East record of 1-6. The calls to replace Kragthorpe grew louder this season as the losses mounted and attendance at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium dropped.

U of L Athletic Director Tom Jurich says he has several candidates in mind to replace Kragthorpe, but has not set a deadline to have someone in place."The one thing i won't do is I won't intrude on anyone that's playing right now. I don't want to be an obstruction to anyone's season, a distraction," Jurich said. The list of potential successors includes Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong, former Tennessee coach Philip Fulmer and former Clemson coach Tommy Bowden.Jurich says U of L will honor the final two years of Kragthorpe's contract, which paid him $1.2 million annually.
