21st Century Parks Director to Take Helm in January

The new parks director for Louisville’s 21st Century Parks project will begin his job in early January. The organization has named Scott Martin to the post. Martin currently works for the Franklin County, Virginia parks department. Before that, he spent six years with the parks department in Boise, Idaho.Martin thinks the 21st Century Parks plan is one of the most ambitious in the nation.“They’re just not building parks like this anymore," says Martin. "You know, a lot of communities talk about quality of life amenities, they say ‘oh, we’re going to build something that attracts folks to our community, and helps us become a livable community’. Well, the difference is that Dan and the whole 21st Century Parks group is actually going to do it. And that just doesn’t happen a lot these days.”The 21st Century Parks Group is headed by businessman and philanthropist Dan Jones. The four-thousand acre parks projects is planned for the Floyds Fork watershed.
