Wayside Christian Mission has been approved to continue operating a building it purchased downtown---as a hotel.Wayside bought the former Hotel Louisville building this year with plans to turn it into a shelter for women and children. To bypass a pending ruling from the zoning board on whether a shelter can operate at 2nd and Broadway downtown, Wayside re-opened the building as a hotel. It’s charging residents of the mission's two emergency shelters one penny per night for economy rooms, with luxury rooms rented for 129 dollars a night.Continued operations were dependent on an inspection from the Louisville Metro Health Department, and on Wednesday the department granted permits for Wayside to keep the hotel and kitchen open.A decision from the zoning board on whether Wayside can open a shelter at the site is likely months away.
