From Civil Rights to Economic Justice
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was unarguably the father and face of the Civil Rights movement. But he was also largely responsible for tying the labor movement to civil rights. The Memphis sanitations workers' strike he was supporting when he was assassinated was part of an overall effort to support the working class. The quest for economic justice continues today; we'll learn about it on Tuesday, with author and labor historian Michael K. Honey, whose book chronicles the Memphis strike.
