State and federal plans to close a ramp from Preston Highway to the Watterson Expressway eastbound have been scrapped.Highway engineers had slated the ramp for closure because of what they deemed to be a high rates of accidents. When state representative Jim Wayne heard about it, he called a public meeting for people who drive in that area to voice their concerns. The ramp is near a number of Preston Highway businesses and Male High School.Wayne says the reversal comes as great encouragement.“Sometimes people think government is impenetrable and that people’s voices aren’t heard, and I think this is a good example," says Wayne. "When people get organized, and they voice their concerns, that public officials can hear that.”Wayne says highway engineers will now look at other ways to make the ramp safer.
