As part of their emergency preparedness plan, officials at Kosair Children’s Hospital tested a portable field hospital Friday. The inflatable tent can double the hospital’s overflow capacity.Safety Director Bill Farrell says the test was prompted by the possibility of escalating H1N1 cases.“Our ERs have in September hit record numbers for Kosair Children’s. We’ve been able to manage all that with our existing plans. The whole choice of this tent, it’s been pushed a little bit by the concern people have—what would we do?” he said. The field hospital is on loan from the Louisville Metro Emergency Management Agency.
