Planned renovations to Riverview Park in southwestern Jefferson County will begin soon.Phase one of the park will include new water facilities, boat docks, parking and playgrounds. It will cost about two million dollars and is being paid for partially with private donations. The construction is expected to be completed next year. Mayor's spokesperson Chris Poynter says work on subsequent improvements will be done as money becomes available."It really all depends on funding," he says. "As you know, Waterfront Park—we built that in four or five different phases—and the last phase of Waterfront Park downtown will be the pedestrian bridge across the Ohio River which we do not have funding for yet. So this will be a many-year, multi-million dollar project."Poynter says the city will seek state, federal and more private funds for continued improvements to the park.
