Boys and Girls Clubs to Stay Open - For Now

Louisville’s four area Boys and Girls Clubs will remain open for now. The Salvation Army made a public appeal in July to keep the clubs open.Major Keath Biggers said in July that the Boys and Girls clubs had a more than $150,000 operating deficit and the Salvation Army might have to close one or more of them to keep the program afloat. He says the public and Metro Government came through with donations to keep the clubs open for now.Biggers says they’re still tight financially, so they’re hoping the economy turns around soon.“I think we’ve hit the bottom economically in the country and things are starting to turn around," says Biggers. "We feel that we have more opportunities to receive some of the funding that we normally receive that has been cut off.”The four clubs serve around two-thousand children a year.Last week, the Salvation Army announced it was shuttering its two Louisville thrift stores.
