Four new fire trucks have been added to the fleet of the Louisville Fire Department. The trucks are called ‘pumper’ trucks, and carry water hoses and extra horsepower to pump water. They also have a 500-gallon water tank.Fire Chief Greg Frederick says the trucks were built to the department’s specifications.“These pumpers were designed with the input of the firefighters that will use them every day," says Frederick. "They were also designed with the input of our fire mechanics at the automotive service facility that maintain our fleet.”
The city spent $2-million on the trucks, as part of a larger bond issue to fund the 21st Century Fire Plan.They’ll replace four pumper trucks that were at least ten years old. Those trucks will service in the department’s back-up fleet.
