County GOP Chair Steps Down

The leader of the Jefferson County Republican Party has stepped down to pursue private business opportunities.Brad Cummings led the county GOP for sixteen months and while he'll still be active in politics, he's handing control of the party over to Jerry Miller, a former executive in the health care industry who also served as Kentucky State Parks commissioner."I'll be there to help Jerry whenever he needs me," says Cummings. "I certainly wouldn't hand off a job like this to somebody without the expectation that I'd still have my hand in it to help answer any questions while definitely staying far enough back away from it that Jerry is definitely the leader of the party."Cummings says his resignation had to come now or wait until after the 2010 elections, as the party is hoping that big wins for Democrats in 2006 and 2008 have set the stage for a conservative comeback."...A potential to win the mayor's race and I think that John Yarmuth is potentially weak this year and there are several Metro Council seats we don't hold that—largely because of the national climate—we might be able to change the tide here locally," he says.Cummings remains on the party's board. The chairmanship is a volunteer position.
