This year's Kentucky State Fair drew nearly 622,000 people, a six-percent increase from the previous year and the second-highest total in five years.
Fair Board President Harold Workman says officials were optimistic that attendance would pick up this year, given the fact that more people were choosing to spend their entertainment dollars closer to home amid the recession."We had kept up with the county fairs across the state and other festivals and those attendance had been up through the summer, so we thought that'd carry into the state fair, and it certainly did," Workman said.Workman says mild weather and a strong entertainment lineup also helped bring in more people.
