IIllegal Activity Suspected in Special State Senate Election

From Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeighSome complaints have surfaced regarding today’s special state Senate election in northeastern Kentucky.Secretary of State Trey Grayson says there have been scattered complaints of exit polling within electioneering zones. But in Lewis and Carter Counties, there have been more serious complaints.“There were some voters that were asked to go in and gets lists of voters who had voted and bring them out," says Grayson. "That is illegal. You cannot go in and get those lists.”Grayson says local grand juries could be asked to look into the reports of illegal activity. He says voter turnout for the special election may exceed earlier projections of 10-to-15-percent, but is not heavy. The candidates hoping fill a vacant Senate seat are Democratic Rep. Robin Webb, Republican Jack Ditty and independent Guy Gibbons.
