FEMA to Set-Up Two Aid Application Offices in Louisville

Louisville Metro Government officials are working with FEMA to set up satellite offices in areas of Louisville hardest hit by the August 4 flood. Last week, the president declared a major disaster in Louisville. The move allows for federal financial aid to private citizens who need help with recovery.Mayor Jerry Abramson says those areas are in south and west Louisville, and FEMA is setting up offices there.“We really don’t know at this point and time the numbers that will be meeting the standards necessary for FEMA to provide grants and/or loans," says Abramson. "But we certainly believe it’s over 1000, FEMA believes that, and that’s why we’ll be opening two offices in the community.”Those offices will take applications from private citizens seeking federal grants or loans.As for federal funding to help the city itself, Abramson says they’re still collecting that information for FEMA, and no declaration for public money has been made.
